Wall-Mounted Televisions

Thanks to advances in technology, today's televisions have become much lighter and thinner than ever before. If you buy a new plasma or LCD TV today, you have the option of placing it on a traditional TV stand or mounting your flat screen on the wall. There are several advantages to wall-mounted televisions.

Popular in homes, and especially popular in public places like sports bars, lounges and waiting rooms, wall-mounted televisions allow you to place the television high above the floor so that it can be easily seen by anyone in the room. It also keeps people from being able to reach up and fool with the channels and volume. As long as you have the remote control, you are in full command of the television.

Another great reason to invest in a wall mount from a company like StandsandMounts.com monitor mounts is that it saves valuable space. Instead of having to buy a piece of bulky furniture to display your television, you can mount it on the wall. With today's flat screen monitors often less than two inches thick, your TV extends about the same distance from the wall as a framed oil painting.

There is no need to worry that your television might come tumbling down from the wall in the middle of the night. Mounting hardware is designed to securely hold all flat screens and monitors so they will not pull away from the wall. Of course, you must properly attach the brackets to your wall before hanging your television. It is recommended that you have a professional do the installation unless you are skilled in such matters and feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Coffee Shop Coffee Any Time

It’s great to be able to get a custom crafted cup of coffee at a coffee shop or cafĂ© – the only problem is that sometimes you just don’t feel like dragging yourself out of the house, or it’s too early or too late in the day or you just don’t have the spare cash to spend on luxury items like barista-style coffee shop coffee by the cup. The solution is simple – with an on demand brewing system you can enjoy Starbucks® brand coffee K-Cup® style any time you want and it costs just pennies a cup.

On demand brewing systems use coffee pods to make coffee so there is no need to deal with the hassle of coffee scooping, measuring and messy coffee grounds. The coffee is always fresh because the individual pods are sealed up until the moment of brewing and there is no waste because you brew only what you need and not a drop more. On demand brewers have no coffee pot or carafe – instead they brew directly into your cup, glass or mug so the coffee is always fresh, hot and flavorful.

You may have a particular way you like your coffee, say half decaffeinated and half regular – with the my K-Cup® brand reusable coffee filter it’s easy to craft custom blends and even create your own special house blend. If you are not all that keen on crafting something unique there are hundreds of ready-made regular and decaffeinated coffee flavors, roasts and blends available in the popular K-Cup coffee pod format at http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/ . When selecting an on demand coffee brewing system it is best to go with one that accepts a readily available coffee pod format so you are assured of a steady supply.

Breastfeeding Woes

It's been going on for a couple of months now. Kassy could not and would not go to sleep without me by her side to nurse her until she reaches dreamland and honestly,  I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. I mean, I couldn't even work now while she naps because every time I try to pull away she instantly wakes up and we'll be back to square one.

My day is completely different now. No more sneaking to my work table to do my tasks and no more anything else besides breastfeeding her even while she's sleeping. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with all the tasks I need to accomplish. Worst case scenario, I'm afraid I would have to choose between a full time job and directly breastfeeding my child on demand.

You see, my daughter likes getting what she wants when she wants it. And what can I say, my boobs are practically hers! She looks at me as if she owns it now. Ugh. She guards it with her arms even, as if someone's gonna take it away from her. My silly little girl. Oh why don't you want those pacifiers?!

I am trying to commit to 2 years of exclusive and direct breastfeeding... But I just realized it isn't always easy. Perhaps a lot more motivation is what I need at the moment.

Coffee, Anyone?

When I was younger, I was always told by people that caffeine is bad for my health. My Mom made me drink chocolate beverages instead, because she said they are more nutritious and would help me gain more weight. Well, I was really skinny that time and did not have access to the internet to research. So okay, I believed them.

But things changed when I started working right after college. At the office I got sleepy all the time, no matter how much paperwork was piled in my desk. I would sneak to the cafeteria in the afternoon and buy liquid coffee to improve mental focus and alertness.

Soon enough I was hooked and I was afraid too much coffee would damage my body in ways I’ve not known. I researched and discovered that it does more good to the body after all. Studies even show that the antioxidants in coffee decreases risk of endometrial cancer and other types of cancer.

And your guess is right; I won’t stop drinking coffee any time soon. I’m actually having a cup right now!

Prescription Lenses

I’ve been wearing prescription lenses since 2005, been seeing better since but still not satisfied. It corrects my nearsightedness and astigmatism so far, but I still wish I can see more clearly given all lighting conditions.

Had a talk with my eye doctor last time I updated my lenses, and I told her what I feel about my concerns.  She said I should perhaps opt for high-definition lenses instead, or those people call freeform progressive lenses. She said there are many brands that carry this type of lenses but warns me at the same time that I might save more money for it.  Looks like my desire for sharper image quality would lead to more expenses. Ugh.

Drained and Exhausted

Have you ever come to a point in your life where you wake up in the morning and realized that you need way more energy to get through the day? Well, I just did. And I’m not talking about the energy you guys can send through Facebook so you can play another round of Candy Crush or Fairy Farm. :)

WHAT CONSUMES MY ENERGY AND WHAT’S MY TYPICAL DAY LIKE?

At 6AM – Little K wakes up, and she would wake me up too by pinching or biting my nose or worse, my nipples. We’d play around for about half an hour and then I’ll get myself all clean and tidy for work.
At 7AM – My work starts at this hour until 11AM, first shift, and would resume later at night at 8PM to 12MN. This 4-hour shift usually goes interrupted; I need to breastfeed K on demand and bathe her, and I would also sneak for a breakfast, etc.
At 11AM – Preparing lunch and prepping up Dirk for school. This alone is very tiring. By 1PM, the daughter and I are alone with each other again. Playing and sleeping most of the time until her Kuya comes home from school at 4PM. The rest of the time we spend outside the house watching kids play on the street.
At 8PM – My second shift starts, but by this time little K already sleeps so I am free to do whatever I need to do for work. I also blog during this time.
At 12MN – End of work shift, time to hit the sack and dream.

Normally, an eight-hour sleep at night will get me all refreshed and energized in the morning, ready to take on the challenges of being a nurturing parent to my two kids and an efficient virtual assistant to my Boss.  Last year, I was even able to accept part-time jobs that eventually led me to working late in the evening until dawn but I never felt as drained as I feel right now.  I feel sleepy all throughout the day, even though I doze off while nursing my infant daughter and putting her to sleep.

My Mom told me that I get sleepy all the time because I’m getting fat, which is also true. Last year my weight was just around 42 to 45 kgs, but I gained too much weight during my pregnancy and left me with additional 5 to 7 kgs post-pregnancy. So it must be a combination of the two; a more hectic life and the weight accumulated over the past year.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KEEP MYSELF GOING?

Definitely more sleep and exercise, plus a healthy and balanced diet. And perhaps a few energy bars, energy drinks or energy supplements to rev up my metabolism, improve my focus and decrease exhaustion.

Guilty Mom

THAT feeling... When you lie in bed with your child and she gets bitten by a sneaky red ant in the face.  It's dang too late when you notice it because you were busy playing Fairy Farm on your android phone. Sheesh.

Hammer Drills - A Craftman's Bestfriend

My uncle Leonardo is perhaps the most trusted craftsman in our place. Our version of Handy Manny, the one we call when something needs to be fixed. Last week I sent him a text message asking if he can drop by our house and repair our broken doorknob, but he politely told me that he could not make it that day because he’s stuck at someone else’s living room trying to mount a large flat screen television.

The task seems too minor for a seasoned worker like him so I asked what the problem was.  Turned out that his most prized possession, an electric Ridgid hammer drill given to him by his younger brother as a birthday gift many many years ago, needs a new power cord. He wasn’t able to use it that time so he just rented one from his friend who works at a nearby construction site.

A hammer drill is essential to any craftsman. It makes drilling into hard surfaces easier, like concrete and metal for example. My uncle said it’s one of the best and the most effective tools he currently have and not being able to use it on important projects can be compared to losing his best friend. He asserted further that he really needs to find replacement Ridgid parts. And I think I can help him. :)
