Keep Calm and Fix your Laptop

I am a full-time WAHM who is totally dependent on a computer and other tech gadgets to make a living. In fact, almost 80% of our household income (my husband and mine combined) is derived from the use of computers alone.

But I am not a techie person; I used to get distraught when something goes wrong. I used to panic every time I run into common computer hardware problems such as a broken LED LCD screen, broken batteries and chargers (The one I’m using right now is my 4^th charger, by the way!), sticky or broken keyboard keys and damaged USB ports. I used to go bananas when I get disconnected from the internet during working hours or when my laptop suddenly hangs when I’m in the middle of doing an urgent research for my Boss.

Over time, I learned how to take the above mentioned problems calmly and look for solutions instead. I start to do my research and apply them, and most solutions I find in the web surprisingly works - unless the problem is the components itself, in which case I need to call for a laptop repair service so I can resume working.

Separation Anxiety

Hi, Moms! What's your typical morning looks like? Ours look like the photo above. Well actually, even messier. :)

Since it's Dirk's examination week, he leaves for school at 8:40 instead of 12:30 during regular days. So that means husband and I don't have enough time to clean the house first unless we wake up really really early - around 5:00 which we couldn't do because we work late and sleep late. So for this week, house cleaning doesn't happen until 11:00 when father and son gets home.

I notice that the bond and the attachment between brother and sister is growing stronger every day. Months ago, you wouldn't hear Kuya wishing that his little sister could come with him to school so they can play together with all his classmates; or worse, that he doesn't want to go to school anymore so they can play all day.

My infant daughter, on the other hand, seems to be developing separation anxiety. According to Wikipedia, "Separation anxiety disorder (SAD) is a psychological condition in which an individual experiences excessive anxiety regarding separation from home or from people to whom the individual has a strong emotional attachment (e.g. a parent or sibling)."  It's pretty common, especially in Asian countries like the Philippines where babies are rarely separated from their parents or siblings.

Kassy is now 10 months old, and at the peak of showing signs of separation anxiety from me, her Dad and her Kuya. She gets upset and cries when one of us is not in the same room with her, glancing around like crazy looking for the missing face. I never ever want to see her cry so I take her along with me wherever I go, bathroom included (sometimes!).

I don't mind that I can't go to the supermarket alone to buy groceries and other stuff;

I don't mind that I can't go to the cinemas to watch new films;

I don't mind that I can't afford to have a long, luxurious bath; and

I don't mind that I can't do many other things I used to love doing, as long as I make my children feel comfortable and happy all the time, as much as I can.

It's REALLY fine with me. And I'm glad I took the path of being a WAHM. I'm glad I can afford to be with Kuya and Kassy and their Dad always.

Dell Parts for a Broken LED LCD Screen

Yes folks, you are looking at my poor laptop screen. And as a WAHM who depends on a computer to perform her job, maintain a blog on the sideline and do other personal stuff, having a damaged screen is more than just a disaster. The moment I saw it was broken, I was heartbroken I nearly cried!

I explored and analyzed my options - buy a new laptop, buy a computer monitor or repair/fix the broken LED LCD. Buying a new laptop or monitor would be too costly for me, so I think I will need to try the role of a DIY Mom and try to get my laptop working like before. I've found several resources online on how to replace a laptop screen easily but I'm still looking for affordable but quality Dell parts.

Hello, November!

After a three-month long hiatus, I am now officially back to blogging and doing other online rakets. I've missed a lot of earning opportunities while I'm gone, so talagang babawi ako from this moment on.

The past months I've been busy with our little farm planted with rice crops which, by the way, did not escape Typhoon Santi's fury. I've been busy with my pre-school son, teaching him at home, doing assignments and work sheets, attending school programs and parents' meetings and stuff. I've been busy with my now ten-month old daughter, who's literally so attached to me every minute of the day. I've been busy struggling to be an efficient WAHM. I really struggled with everything I do and I seriously needed to devise an effective time management and coordination scheme, which are my weaknesses.

Finding a schedule that ultimately works for my lifestyle had been trial-and-error. But I did not give up until I found a suitable one and now my working schedule goes smoothly with my duties as a wife and a mother. I overcame the difficulties of being a multi-tasker WAHM and I feel like I've accomplished a great deal.

Push Software Controller and Other Instruments

As an appreciative audience of live music, I can't help but notice numerous equipments with the artists on stage. And as much as I want to be able to name them all at sight, I cannot. So when speaking to people who are conversant about the topic of live music and the like, I keep quiet, just listen and observe. But when I get home, I search online and try to familiarize myself with it so when I see it next time or talk to friends, I’ll know what the heck we are talking about like the ableton controller at guitar center, for example. Two of my friends talked about it just recently, and I did not know which one they are talking about until I get home and worked on my computer. It sure would help if I can familiarize myself with all this, no matter how challenging the task is.
