I'm sure I'm not alone with this predicament: Elected a politician and then later get disappointed, not entirely because of the things he did but more on the things that he failed to do on his term. Their promises during campaign period remains just... promises. Words so sweet and convincing but were never put into action.
The 2013 polls is coming. Another new challenge for us Filipino voters to get to know the candidates seeking for election or reelection, and to evaluate and re-evaluate their performance as public servants so we can make an informed decision by election day.
Earlier today, I stumbled upon this post that basically asks readers if they will vote for Senator Chiz Escudero for a second term. I actually don't know yet as I usually make a final decision a week before election day. But me and my family voted for him last election. He's just so lovable, an accomplished young politician, very articulate, charismatic and passionate. So I want to grab this chance to express my views and opinion in relation to the Philippines Election Journal assessment.
On Senator Chiz Escudero's Accomplishment as a Lawmaker
I've found a number of bills and resolutions he sponsored, co-sponsored, co-authored (10, 5 and 13 respectively) but none listed him as the sole author or primary proponent. I really hope that the Philippine Senate database, Wikipedia and the Senator's official website are just not updated.
I think that every elected public servant and politician should maintain an email account they can check and respond to their constituents' queries in a reasonable amount of time. Their assistants and secretaries can do this in their behalf, since I know most of them are busy and simply do not have the time. I also suggest putting ACCURATE and up-to-date information on websites and/or social networking sites so the public knows what they have accomplished and what remains to be done.
On Senator Chiz and Heart Evangelista Love Team
It would be unfair to the couple to presume that it's just a publicity stunt intended for generating more buzz and interest to Senator Chiz's candidacy and for burying negative issues that targets him and his performance as a lawmaker in the past several weeks. Nagkataon lang siguro. And depending on whose opinion you ask, the Chiz+Heart tandem is either perfect timing or bad timing.
For me, I don't see anything wrong with a Senator and a famous actress being in-love with each other. It happens all over the world, every time. Though I really hate the feeling of getting fooled when what I originally thought to be legit turns out to be fake, or just a show. So let's see. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata, eka nga.
My Two Cents
I believe that a good candidate must not get swayed and defeated by the unfriendly media. Rather, he should talk to the people directly. There will always be people who would dig up your skeletons, and make you look stupid and unworthy in every way possible. So the key is to remain focused and counter them with a commanding personality and a calm demeanor.

I know some famous speakers that they hired a virtual assistant to do the posting on Facebook, Twitter and to respond email inquiries.

Further, I also voted for him last year (when I was in the Philippines). I hope to cast my votes too this coming 2013 election.

I'm wondering too why there are so many post on Chiz. A senator's life is not solely on authoring bills. It also involves how you give your inputs on bills on the floor and I believe Chiz do give key insights on this. I really don't buy that the better senator is the one who authors the most bills but the one who is able to fine tune the bills to be a good law.

ReplyDeleteMe, too. I'm glad I gave him a chance. And if I'll weigh the Good and the Bad things about Senator Chiz, I think he's still be on the positive side. Pasado pa rin kumbaga. But we'll see. Next year pa naman ang election. Still have lots of time to decide.
DeleteI am a pioneer member of "Team Chiz" and we were there who voluntarily worked for him during the last election and I will going to do that again on his next campaign. About Heart, he is just human I think, plus or minus her it doesn't matter to me.
ReplyDeleteGood that you found some additional infos about what his accomplishment bec. I was unsuccessful on that part. Since they have become so aggressive in their campaign online and in the media I just wondered why they never thought of updating his pages when his camp claims that he wants to make his presence known online. Just saying coz if I were a senator running for a seat, that's the first thing I will do because that's precisely the first thing that people will do now, check you online:)
ReplyDeleteShowbiz Chiz... I think his exposure to Kris's morning show and his involvement to Heart make him a celebrity to a world other than politics. He's smart... he's wittingly intelligent but he should be more sensitive in facing various issues concerning his public and private life.

ReplyDeleteAs they say, focus and determination - are keys in this realm. I guess it is really the high time to push through transparent governance. Interaction between the public officials and the public in general should not be that cumbersome to fulfill.
ReplyDeleteA lot remains to be seen, ey? A lot of our politicians are still stuck in that 'star mentality'; they need to be famous and well-known to be successful. While that's true to a point, I hope performance matters too to the current voting public. I'm a little hesitant with Sen. Chiz due to his Cybercrime Law stance and his lack of a solid and strong portfolio in lawmaking.
